VICTOR OLAIYA

 

Victor Abimbola Olaiya OON, (31 December 1930 – 12 February 2020), 
also known as Dr Victor Olaiya, was a Nigerian trumpeter 
who played in the highlife style. 
Though famous in Nigeria during the 1950s and early 1960s,
 Olaiya received little recognition outside his native country. 
 Alhaji Alade Odunewu of the Daily Times called him "The Evil Genius of Highlife."
 Olaiya was born on 31 December 1930, in Calabar, Cross River State,
 the 20th child of a family of 24.
 His parents, Alfred Omolona Olaiya and Bathsheba Owolabi Motajo, 
 came from Ijesha-Ishu in Ekiti State.

Olaiya came from a very rich family. His father's house,
 Ilọijọs Bar, stood at 2 Bamgbose Street, Lagos Island, 
 until it was demolished in September 2016.

Angélique Kpasseloko Hinto Hounsinou Kandjo Manta Zogbin Kidjo,
 known as Angélique Kidjo (born July 14, 1960), 
 is a Beninese singer-songwriter,actress, and activist of Nigerian descent
 who is noted for her diverse musical influences and creative music videos.
 In 2007, Time magazine called her "Africa's premier diva".

Her musical influences include the Afropop, Caribbean zouk, Congolese rumba,
 jazz, gospel, and Latin styles; as well as her childhood idols Bella Bellow,
 James Brown, Nina Simone, Aretha Franklin, Celia Cruz, Jimi Hendrix,
 Miriam Makeba and Carlos Santana. 
 She has recorded George Gershwin's "Summertime", Ravel's Boléro,
 Jimi Hendrix's "Voodoo Child" and the Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter", 
 and has collaborated with Dave Matthews and the Dave Matthews Band, 
 Kelly Price, Alicia Keys, Branford Marsalis, Ziggy Marley, Philip Glass, Peter Gabriel,
 Bono, Carlos Santana, John Legend, Herbie Hancock, Josh Groban, 
 Dr John, the Kronos Quartet, Yemi Alade, Cassandra Wilson and Indonesia's pop star Anggun.
 Kidjo's hit songs include "Agolo", "We We", "Adouma", "Wombo Lombo", "Afirika", "Batonga",
 and her version of "Malaika".
 Her album Logozo is ranked number 37 in the Greatest Dance Albums
 of All Time list compiled by Vice magazine's Thump website.

Kidjo is fluent in five languages: Fon, French, Yorùbá, Gen (Mina), and English.[
She sings in all of them, and she also has her own personal language, 
which includes words that serve as song titles such as "Batonga". 
"Malaika" is a song sung in the Swahili language. Kidjo often uses Benin's 
traditional Zilin vocal technique and vocalese.

WYNN STEWART

 

Winford Lindsey Stewart (June 7, 1934 – July 17, 1985), better known as Wynn Stewart,
 was an American country music performer.
 He was one of the progenitors of the Bakersfield sound. Although not a huge chart success,
 he was an inspiration to such greats as Buck Owens, Merle Haggard and Nick Lowe.
Wynn Stewart was born in Morrisville, Missouri, United States,[1] in 1934,
 during the Depression. 
 He spent most of his childhood moving around the country with his sharecropping family.
 After World War II, Stewart spent a year working at KWTO in Springfield, Missouri.
 In 1948, he moved to California with his family.
 Stewart originally wanted to become a professional baseball player,
 but suffered from a hand disease and was also too short to play professional baseball.
 In high school, Stewart formed a band that played at clubs around California.
 He soon met steel guitarist Ralph Mooney, who joined Stewart's band.
 The group's lineup consisted of guitarist Roy Nichols and bassist Bobby Austin.

Ofege was formed in the early 1970s by a bunch of teenage hippies at 
the prestigious St. Gregory's College in the Obalende area of Lagos Nigeria.
 Ofege was largely influenced by the guitar solos of Carlos Santana,
 Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Francis Rossi, and the criss-cross rhythms of Osibisa.
 At home, they were influenced by the music of ‘BLO’ (Berkley Jones, 
 Laolu Akins and Mike Odumosu), ‘Monomono’ (led by Joni Haastrup),
 The Funkees, and Ofo The Black Company He also said "It's clear that for Ofege, 
 songs were largely incidental, little more than excuses to launch into insane, distorted guitar solos.
 It's also very clear that they smoked a lot of weed." 
 Their first album was recorded while the band members were still in high school (average age of 16),
 Ofege’s debut album Try And Love was originally recorded and released in 1973. 
 Due to their vibrant combo of sweet harmonies, hooks & fuzz,
 they would become one of the most legendary Nigerian groups of all time, 
 with expressive sales and national stardom.
However, with only four albums released until 1978 and no recognition outside Nigeria, 
Ofege’s short career would only be rediscovered with the turn of the century.

AC/DC are an Australian rock band formed in Sydney in 1973 by Scottish-born 
brothers Malcolm and Angus Young.
 Their music has been variously described as hard rock, blues rock, and heavy metal;

AC/DC underwent several line-up changes before releasing their first album,
 High Voltage, in 1975. Membership subsequently stabilised around the Young brothers, 
 singer Bon Scott, drummer Phil Rudd, and bass player Mark Evans.
 Evans was replaced by Cliff Williams in 1977 for the album Powerage.
 In February 1980, a few months after recording the album Highway to Hell, 
 lead singer and co-songwriter Bon Scott died of acute alcohol poisoning.
 The group considered disbanding but stayed together, bringing in Brian Johnson as replacement for Scott.
 Later that year, the band released their first album with Johnson, Back in Black, 
 which they dedicated to Scott's memory.
 The album launched them to new heights of success and became one of the best selling albums of all time.

Atomic Kitten are a British pop girl group formed in Liverpool in 1998
 whose current members are Natasha Hamilton and Liz McClarnon.

 who served as principal songwriters during Atomic Kitten's early years.
